2016 Civil War Travelogue
Welcome to my 2016 travelogue page! (Since these reports tend to be lengthy, they are often in separate HTML pages. Use the links just below to see all the finished reports.)
Here is a reminder about the reason I write these pages the way I do. They record my experiences and impressions of Civil War trips primarily for my future use. Thus, they sometimes make assumptions about things I already know and focus on insights that I receive. They are not general-purpose descriptions for people unfamiliar with the Civil War, although I do link to various Wikipedia articles throughout. Apologies about the quality of interior photographs—I don't take fancy cameras with big flashes to these events. If you would like to be notified of new travelogues, connect to me via Facebook. |
Here are my completed trips of 2016:
- February: A primarily non-Civil War trip to South Florida, but I got to see two Civil War–era forts: Fort Jefferson and Fort Zachary Taylor.
- April 6–16, Trip to Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Dalton for:
- April 6–9: Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation Annual Conference in Atlanta
- April 12–16: BGES, Atlanta Campaign, Part I of a four-year study
- May 19–22, Chambersburg, Stonewall Jackson in the Valley
- October 28–30: West Coast Civil War Roundtable Conference, Costa Mesa, California
Here were possibilities that intrigued me in 2016, but I could not attend:
- June 17–22: Gettysburg Civil War Institute, Reconstruction & the Legacy of the Civil War (travel conflict)
- July 27–31: Chambersburg, Gettysburg Day 3 & Beyond
- September 16–18: Civil War Trust Grand Review, West Point, New York
- October 14–16: Pamplin Park Annual Seminar
