Hal Jespersen’s Wikipedia Civil War Maps

These are maps I created for Wikipedia American Civil War battle articles. They are in the public domain. If you use them, I would appreciate a footnote crediting me. The source files listed as "FH11" were created with Macromedia Freehand. Although I have not experimented with it, I expect that filters exist to open these files in Adobe Illustrator and other vector graphic editing programs. As of August 2007, I have switched over to Adobe Illustrator; files in this format are listed as "AI." At the same time, I have started date stamping new or corrected maps in the Recent Update column. An all-around excellent source for other Civil War maps is the West Point Atlas by Vincent Esposito. It was from those maps that I derived my style of simple topographic representation.

For Photoshop images, see below.

Photoshop Images

I occasionally create composite images of Civil War photographs for Wikipedia articles. The table below has the Photoshop PSD files. In these portraits, the figure(s) and background are in separate layers. (some of these PSD files are pretty large.)
